In India People with Disability find it very difficult to get employment. There are two main reasons to it —-

• Humble background of the disabled candidate. Thus, the educational foundation is weak and not linked to Private Sector jobs in the right way. They are many a time just not aware of the jobs available nor are they prepared to grab the opportunity when this information is available- with the right education, skill sets or attitude.

• Lack of awareness and sensitivity amongst the Corporates. Most know little about the technical and other aids or methods they could use at the workplace to carry out a wide range of tasks and responsibilities.
SARTHAK educates and trains persons with disabilities and prepares them to join the mainstream workforce as confident individuals. It also engages constructively with corporates, government & private institutions etc to provide the best possible interface for these candidates to get meaningfully placed, on a sustainable basis – through job fairs, roundtables, advocacy and sensitization

The project focuses on assisting PWD’s to get suitable jobs in companies/organizations. For this to succeed, Sarthak is supported by TMF to run an Employment Cell comprising of a team of dedicated staff to:
• network/do job prospecting with HR leads in companies as also to manage all aspects of the employment programme
• to interact/co-ordinate with relevant officials in these companies under the HR leads who directly deal with such matters and co-ord/follow up with regard to all aspects with the PWD candidates etc
• to help integrate/catalyze all processes that will assist appropriate integration of the candidate into the job
• Content Development/Admin support

Achievements of the project:
Through the first year Sarthak had proposed to assist the employment of 200 PWD’s in appropriate companies/organisatins. The proposed Employment Cell facilitated this process. As per data/info provided by Sarthak - Job Fairs & Roundtables played an important role besides constant engagement & follow up with all stakeholders. About 250 jobs were provided in companies like IBM Daksh, Wipro, Lemon Tree, Netambit, Tata Steel, Aeigis, Genpact, ITC Welcome Group, Bank of America, KFC, Costa Coffee etc. (Data provided by Sarthak)
